HORSEBACK RIDES

Beautiful Peruvian horses have always been present in Portezuelo Park thanks to Arquitect Carlos Alfaro and his lifetime passion for Peruvian horses. Generations of these robust, born-in-Portezuelo creatures, are what allows us to offer this top notch Horseback Riding tour. We usually take a maximum of 6 riders at a time to be able to monitor riders closely. Our horses have been doing tours for the past five years, so they are very familiar with the trails and tourists.
We offer tours that take you to the peak of Cerro Cuyanunsul through the cloud forest which lasts between 2 to 2 .5 hours.
Shorter rides through the coffee plantation, to the geysers, or to Laguna Verde crater lake are also available. All of them have spectacular views so don’t forget your cameras. Our horse caretaker, will always ride with the group as he knows all of the horses extremely well.

Riding Instruction
For kids and infants, we offer horse riding instruction without leaving the camp headquarters.

HIKES / TREKKING TOURS

An exquisite terrain and breathtaking views make hiking or trekking at Portezuelo Park one of the most popular activities. There are many natural attractions nearby like geysers and thermal bath, the cloud forest or nearby crater lakes which offer hikers a diversity of trails that will suite all levels. Trails are rustic, private and natural. You can choose from short 1.0 hr – 1.5 hr. hikes. Other longer hikes that can  last up to 8 hours are recommended for people who are fit.

MOUNTAIN BIKES

We offer an exquisite terrain for mountain biking. We use tough “Specialized” and “Giant” front suspension bikes  for our tours.  Our most popular mountain bike tour starts at 1900 msnm at either Laguna Verde crater lake or Cerro Cuyanunsul and takes you on a 23 km downhill ride all the way into Juayua, the colonial town at 900 msnm. The peak is reached on horseback where the bikes and gear await you. At this point, our guide will provide helmets and explain the route. He will carry all emergency tools needed to fix any problems or flats on the way. Riders are responsible for their own water along with any other personal belongings. We encourage riders to bring their cameras and backpacks along as the views are impressive.

This tour lasts anywhere from 3-5 hrs from the moment you depart Portezuelo Park until you transfer back from Juayua.

For those of you who are up for a real challenge, we have designed challenging loops and circuits. These selected routes combine uphill with downhill rides and are recommended if you want to work out your leg muscles. No horses or transfers are used in these routes. The duration of the tour is anywhere from 1- 4 hours.

HIGH ROPES CIRCUIT

Ropes course activities follow the fundamental philosophy of Experiential Education. A Ropes Course is an engineered set of structures that are designed to present challenges to individuals or groups. These circuits evolved out of obstacle courses usually used in military settings but contemporary ropes courses are used by people of all shapes, sizes and abilities. The various circuits we offer emphasize self esteem, self confidence, endurance and help visitors overcome psychological fears and physical challenges.Ropes course structures include high elements - usually constructed in trees. Portezuelo’s High Ropes Course hang within an impressive and beautiful Araucarias Tree forest.

Portezuelo High Ropes Course consist of sophisticated elements that have been designed with safety as paramount. Our High Ropes Course elements use complex belay systems, relying on ropes, harnesses, friction devices, carabiners and helmets. Push yourself and overcome your personal limits.  This course is built 10 meters above the ground and it is safely designed under international safety standards.  You will have 9 different obstacles to overcome, each of them different by nature. You will feel adrenaline pumping through your veins all along as you overcome these obstacles.  It is an excellent way to overcome and take control of your deepest fears. This course was originally designed for team building events but has turned out to be a great tourist alternative, so don´t hesitate, Try it!

ATV TOUR

The ATV tour is an excellent, adrenaline-packed tour offered exclusively at Portezuelo Park. Ride with experienced guides and explore not only El Portezuelo farm, but the whole Sierra Ilamatepeque on new 2008 250 Bayou Kawasaki ATV´s. This tour is full of adventure and the routes are safely designed for all levels. Helmets are included. Jeans, spare cloth and boots are strongly recomended. Don’t forget your cameras as the action and views are spectacular. Riders are single passengers only and there are some age restrictions so be sure to ask in advanced.
